Unit | Pinwheel

Introduction

Pinwheel and Unit have partnered to make it easy to integrate payroll connectivity into your platform. Unit is a banking-as-a-service platform that lets you embed powerful financial features into your product enabling you to launch in a matter of weeks. With Unit, you can empower your users by building cards, accounts, payments, and lending products — as easy as plug-and-play.

You will contract directly with Unit and Pinwheel in order to access this integration. Pinwheel can connect you to the Unit team, who can provide you with a sandbox account to begin testing.

Implementation

Step 1: Contract with Unit and Pinwheel

You will need to work with the Unit team to create an account if you do not already have one. Once you have contracted with Pinwheel and Unit, you can begin the technical implementation.

Step 2: Familiarize yourself with Pinwheel Link

You will need to embed Pinwheel Link, Pinwheel’s front-end widget, directly into your application. Review the Pinwheel Link guide, and SDKs to get started.

Step 3: Integrate with the Pinwheel and Unit APIs

Your implementation of the Pinwheel and Unit APIs will vary depending on your use-case. You can find the Unit Documentation here.

Customer Experience, Direct Deposit Switch example

  1. Within your application, an end user can search for their payroll platform or employer via Pinwheel Link.
  2. Once a provider is selected, the end user can choose to switch all or part of their payroll into their deposit account on Unit.
  3. Now that your end user has switched their direct deposit, each future paycheck will continue to fund into their deposit account on Unit in the distribution amounts selected.
  4. You can allow your end customer to change how much they distribute to Unit at any time through Pinwheel.
